Frequently Asked Questions
Do you install generators?
No — HomeGrid sells equipment only. Installation must be performed by a licensed electrician or Generac-certified installer. Visit generac.com/dealer-locator to find an installer near you.
What size generator do I need?
It depends on what you want to power during an outage. Use our sizing calculator to check your appliances and get a recommendation.
Size My Generator →Natural gas vs. propane — which should I choose?
If your home has a natural gas line, choose natural gas — unlimited fuel supply during an outage. If you don't have gas service, choose propane with a dedicated tank. Dual fuel models support both.
How long does shipping take?
Home standby generators typically arrive in 5–15 business days. Portable generators and EV chargers ship in 3–7 days. Solar panels and batteries take 7–21 days.

Most municipalities require an electrical permit for standby generator installation. Requirements vary by location — check with your local building department before installation.
What is a transfer switch?
A transfer switch connects your generator to your home's electrical panel. When power goes out, it automatically (or manually) switches your home to generator power. Most Generac home standby systems include an automatic transfer switch (ATS).
Can I return a generator?
Yes, unused generators in original packaging can be returned within 30 days. A 20% restocking fee applies. You are responsible for return freight costs.
